Ladakh Declares 23 Heritage Sites as Protected Monuments

On 30th July 2026, Union Territory of Ladakh Declares 23 Heritage Sites as Protected Monuments to Safeguard Ladakh's Rich Cultural Legacy.

  • The notification was approved by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, under Section 3(1) of the Jammu & Kashmir Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, Samvat 1977 (1920 AD).
  • The notified sites represent a wide cross-section of Ladakh’s civilizational history, including prehistoric rock art, medieval fortifications, and ancient Buddhist monastic heritage.
