India Adds Siliserh Lake and Kopra Reservoir to Ramsar List
On 12th December 2025, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced that Siliserh Lake and Kopra Reservoir have been included as Ramsar Sites, taking the country’s total number of internationally recognised wetlands to 96.
About the Newly Designated Ramsar Sites
Siliserh Lake (Rajasthan)
- Located in Alwar district, nestled in the Aravalli hills.
- Originally constructed in the 19th century as a water reservoir.
- Now a vital freshwater wetland ecosystem supporting resident and migratory birds, fish, and aquatic vegetation.
- A key winter stopover for migratory birds, enhancing regional avian biodiversity.
Kopra Reservoir (Chhattisgarh)
