Approval for Maharashtra’s Leopard Birth Control Programme
- On 17th November 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change approved Maharashtra’s proposal for a Leopard Birth Control Programme, making it the first initiative of its kind in India.
- It will begin as a pilot project in Junnar.
- Conservation Status of Leopard:
- IUCN Red List: Near Threatened
- CITES: Appendix I
- Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972: Schedule I
