Monoclonal Antibodies (mAbs)
Recently, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) invited Expressions of Interest for developing and producing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) as a countermeasure against Nipah virus, which continues to trigger repeated outbreaks in India.
- “Monoclonal antibodies” refers to lab-engineered antibodies that are designed to mimic natural immune antibodies by specifically recognising and neutralising a particular pathogen or antigen.
- It means that a single, identical antibody type is produced in large quantities to target one specific protein on a virus, offering precise and powerful protection or treatment.
