Moon Sphere of Influence (MSI)
Recently, ISRO announced that the Chandrayaan-3 Propulsion Module (PM) has entered the Moon Sphere of Influence (MSI) during its ongoing extended mission operations.
- The term “Moon Sphere of Influence” refers to the region around the Moon where the Moon’s gravitational pull becomes dominant over Earth’s gravity, thereby controlling the motion of nearby spacecraft.
- It means that any object entering this region, such as a spacecraft, begins to follow trajectories primarily governed by the Moon’s gravity rather than Earth’s.
