ECI’s New Initiatives to Enhance Accuracy and Accessibility of Electoral Rolls
On 1st May 2025, the Election Commission of India (ECI) unveiled three new initiatives aimed at improving the accuracy of electoral rolls and streamlining voter services.
The Three New Initiatives
1. Linking Death Registration Data to Electoral Rolls
One of the most significant changes is the integration of registered death data from the Registrar General of India (RGI) directly into the electoral roll update process.
- This will allow Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to promptly remove the names of deceased individuals from the voter lists, reducing dependence on citizen-submitted Form 7 applications.
