Parliamentary Panel Recommends Revamping of MGNREGS
On 4th April 2025, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj tabled its report on MGNREGS in the Parliament.
- The panel stressed on revamping the scheme keeping in view emerging challenges.

High Pendencies
- Total Pending Liabilities: Rs. 23,446.27 crore.
- This is 27.26% of the current MGNREGA budget, reflecting serious payment delays.
Deletion of Job Cards
- 50.31 lakh job cards were deleted in 2021–22.
- Common Reasons: Spelling errors, Aadhaar mismatches — raising concerns about exclusion of genuine workers.
Wage Issues
- MGNREGS wages have not kept up with inflation.
