2026 Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit

On 2nd April 2026, global health leaders at the 2026 Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit, co-hosted by the World Health Organization in Rio de Janeiro, renewed their commitment to accelerate life-saving public health actions in rapidly growing urban areas.

What Happened?

  • Summit brought together representatives from 55 cities worldwide to address rising urban health challenges.
  • Focused on tackling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries, responsible for over 80% of global deaths.
  • Emphasised adoption of evidence-based, scalable urban health solutions.

  • Major diseases targeted include:
    • Heart disease,
    • Cancer,
    • Chronic respiratory diseases, and
    • Diabetes.
  • Also addressed: Road traffic injuries and urban safety risks.
