UNSC Resolution on Strait of Hormuz Vetoed by Russia and China

On 7th April 2026, a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution on securing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was vetoed by Russia and China, despite receiving majority support.

  • Encouraged defensive coordination among nations.
  • Failed due to veto by Russia and China.

Voting Outcome

  • 11 members voted in favour.
  • 2 opposed: Russia and China; 2 abstained.
  • Failed as permanent members used veto power.

  • Iran accused of restricting Strait of Hormuz.
