Global Electricity Review, 2026
On 21st April 2026, global energy think tank ‘Ember’ released the seventh annual Global Electricity Review, 2026.
- The review provides the first comprehensive overview of changes in global and country-level electricity generation in 2025, based on reported data.
Key Insights
Global
- Global electricity demand grew by 2.8% (849TWh) in 2025. While this was significantly below the 4.3% growth seen in 2024, it was broadly in line with the 10-year average annual increase of 2.7%.
- Fossil-fuel generation fell by 0.2% in 2025, with wind and solar alone meeting 99% of the growth in electricity demand last year.
