UJALA: 10 Years of Energy-Efficient Lighting
On 5th January 2025, the UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of revolutionizing household lighting in India. Since its launch, the initiative has distributed over 36.87 crore LED bulbs, significantly reducing energy consumption and household electricity costs.
Achievements
- Energy Savings and Cost Reduction: The scheme has led to annual savings of Rs. 19,153 crore by reducing electricity bills and improving energy efficiency in households.
- Market Transformation: The cost of LED bulbs has drastically fallen from Rs. 450-500 in 2014 to Rs. 70 due to large-scale procurement and competitive bidding.
