Guillotine in Parliament

On 23rd March, 2023, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha applied the guillotine — a procedure that puts to vote — on the entire set of Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments in Budget 2023-24 without any discussion.

  • It was a method of execution in France until the country stopped capital punishment in 1981.
