Strategic Petroleum Reserves

On 23rd March 2026, as per the data provided by the Union Government, the country currently holds around 3.37 million tonnes of crude oil, about 64% of its total 5.33 million tonnes storage capacity.

What are Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR)?

  • Strategic Petroleum Reserves are dedicated stockpiles of crude oil maintained by countries as a buffer against sudden supply disruptions and price shocks.
