Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic Piped Natural Gas Connections
On 18 August 2026, the Government approved the Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) Connections to accelerate the expansion of clean, safe and affordable piped cooking fuel across India. The scheme will come into effect from 1 September 2026.
Key Features
- India currently has around 1.74 crore domestic PNG connections.
- The scheme seeks to increase active and billed household connections and expand PNG networks to new geographical areas.
- City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities will receive incentives for converting unbilled or inactive connections into active, billed connections.
