Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana
On 31st July 2026, the Union Cabinet approved the 'Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY)’, a Scheme for the development of Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) Projects with Energy Storage Systems (ESS).
About PM-SSY
- Type: Central Sector Scheme.
- Target: Develop 5,000 MW of FSPV capacities during FY 2026–27 to FY 2030-31.
- Technology: Solar panels are installed on buoyant platforms over reservoirs and inland water bodies.
- Potential: National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) estimates India’s floating solar potential at 102.18 GWp, against around 700 MW currently installed.
- Energy Storage: Projects must include co-located ESS with a minimum 2-hour storage capacity, amounting to 10,000 MWh across the ....
