National Investment Policy for Urea-2026 (NIPU-2026)
On 15th July 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the National Investment Policy for Urea-2026 (NIPU-2026).
What is NIPU-2026?
- It is a sector-specific investment policy aimed at reviving, expanding and establishing natural gas-based urea manufacturing plants in India.
- It succeeds the New Investment Policy (NIP), 2012, whose investment window ended in October 2019.
Objectives
- Promote indigenous urea production.
- Encourage investment in new gas-based fertilizer plants.
- Reduce dependence on imported urea.
- Strengthen food and fertilizer security.
- Improve energy efficiency in fertilizer production.
- Support the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
