During his recent visit to France (10-12 February 2025), India’s Prime Minister gifted Dokra art pieces to the French President.
Brief Description of Dokra Artwork
- Origin: Dokra is a form of ancient bell metal craft practiced by the Ojha metal smiths living in states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and Telangana.
- Metals Used: The structures are usually made of brass, nickel and zinc alloys.
Technique Involved
- Dokra uses the traditional Indian technique of bronze casting using the ‘lost wax’ method, i.e. casting in moulds.
