New GI Logo Recognition for Kashmir Carpets
On 7th February 2025, the Kashmir hand-knotted carpet “Kal baffi” received a new GI logo from the Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai.
- It aims to ensure authenticity, protect artisans from imitations, and boost global recognition and exports.
- GI logo is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
About Kashmir Carpet
- Origin: The origin dates back to 15th century. Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin brought carpet weavers from Persia and Central Asia to train locals.
