Demwe Lower Hydel Project

Recently, sixteen years after granting environmental clearance to the Demwe Lower Project, an expert panel of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has now held that the EC will be valid for another 11 years, till 2037, on the grounds that the project was stuck in litigation for over 10 years.

  • The Demwe Lower Project, a 1,750 MW hydel project on the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh, originally received environmental clearance in February 2010.
  • The Project spans Anjaw and Lohit districts and involves construction of a 162.12 m tall concrete gravity dam.
