RBI Issues Draft Revised Guidelines for Lead Bank Scheme

On 13th February 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released draft revised guidelines for the Lead Bank Scheme (LBS) seeking public comments.

  • On the basis of the recommendations of both the Gadgil Study Group and Banker's Committee (Nariman Committee) Reserve Bank of India introduced the "Lead Bank Scheme" towards the end of 1969.
  • It aims at facilitating balanced regional development, rural banking infrastructure, efficient, coordinated and inclusive provision of financial services thus contributing to socio-economic development at the grassroots.
