Answer: Preamble to a Constitution is a reflection of core constitutional values that is - guiding principles for all provisions of the Constitution. Thus, it is philosophy or essence of the Constitution.
- American Constitution was the first to begin with the preamble. Many countries including India followed the practice.
- The preamble to Indian Constitution is based on objective resolution passes and moved by Constituent Assembly. Preamble to the Indian Constitution was amended in 1976 by 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act that added new words – socialist and secular.
