Cheetah Conservation Hub in Banni Grassland
After the success at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, recently Gujarat welcomed the approval for a cheetah conservation breeding centre in Kutch, signalling the return of cheetahs to the vibrant Banni grassland.
- Gujarat’s Forest Minister announced the central government's approval for the establishment of a cheetah conservation breeding centre in the Banni grassland, envisioning the revival of the historical cheetah habitat.
- Noted Professor Yadvendradevsinh Jhala, formerly of the Wildlife Institute of India, welcomed the move, citing historical cheetah sightings near Mandvi in the 18th century and the potential revitalization of Banni's grassland ecosystem.
