Heatwaves and Lightning Notified as Natural Disasters
Recently, the government has included heatwaves and lightning as notified natural calamities under disaster management guidelines.
- States can now access SDRF/NDRF funds for relief during heatwaves and lightning.The move follows the 16th Finance Commission’s recommendation.
What Has Changed?
- Financial Assistance: States can use disaster funds for heatwave and lightning relief.
- NDRF Support: National funds can help when state resources are insufficient.
- Mitigation Projects: Heatwave mitigation projects can receive funding.
- Greater Flexibility: States are no longer limited to 10% of SDRF funds for heatwave relief.
