CAG Flags Shortcomings in Green India Mission

On 12th August 2026, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) flagged major deficiencies in the implementation of the Green India Mission (GIM), including inadequate funding, poor convergence among government schemes, weak monitoring and substantial shortfalls in achieving forest-cover targets.

  • The CAG audit covered the planning, implementation and monitoring of GIM interventions in 16 States and Union Territories during 2015-16 to 2024-25.
