Satpura–Melghat Tiger Corridor

Recently, the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife recommended wildlife clearance for a railway project in Madhya Pradesh.

  • The railway line will pass through two notified tiger corridors. It will also cross an Eco-Sensitive Zone in the Satpura–Melghat landscape.

Why are Tiger Corridors Important?

  • Wildlife Movement: Corridors allow animals to move between separate habitats.
  • Genetic Flow: Animal movement maintains genetic diversity between populations.
  • Population Survival: Connected habitats support long-term wildlife survival.
