India Launches Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan

On 4th August 2026, on the International Clouded Leopard Day, India launched the Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan (CAP) to strengthen the long-term conservation of the species, particularly across Northeast India.

  • The plan was prepared under the Government of India–Global Environment Facility (GEF)–UNDP initiative.

What is the Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan?

  • Protection of Species & Ecosystem: It is a framework that identifies important habitats, conservation threats and scientific methods needed to protect the species and its ecosystem.
  • Priority Conservation Landscapes: The plan identifies 14 priority landscapes across Northeast India for focused conservation.
