State of the World's Nursing Report 2025
On 12th May 2025, on International Nurses Day 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) released the State of the World’s Nursing 2025 report.
- The 2025 edition of the report provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the nursing workforce.
Key Highlights
Global Nursing Workforce: Overview
- 29.8 million nurses globally in 2023 (up from 27.9 million in 2018).
- Unequal Distribution: 78–80% of nurses work in countries covering only ~49% of the global population.
- High-income countries (HICs) host ~50% of nurses but only 17% of the world’s population.
- Low-income countries (LICs) face severe nurse shortages.
