Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System

India’s vast and diverse borders, ranging from deserts to mountains and riverine terrain, pose complex security challenges. Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) is a technology-driven border security system conceptualised by the Government of India to enhance surveillance and response along international borders. It aims to improve situational awareness and enable quick response to emerging threats, particularly along the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders.

Security Implications in Difficult Terrains

  • Terrain-Specific Vulnerabilities: Mountainous borders (LAC) - limited visibility, extreme weather, slow troop mobility.
    • Riverine borders (India-Bangladesh) - frequent infiltration, smuggling due to shifting channels.
