India’s First Fully Paperless Court System
- In January 2026, the Kalpetta Judicial District in Wayanad district of Kerala became India’s first district to implement a fully paperless court system.
- This achievement is considered a major milestone in judicial digitalisation.
- All stages of judicial functioning - case initiation (e-filing) and pre-trial proceedings to evidence recording, interim applications, and final judgments - are now conducted entirely through digital platforms.
- The need for physical case files has been completely eliminated.
- Along with this transition, AI-based judicial assistance tools have been integrated into the district court management system.
