Lucknow Becomes Uttar Pradesh’s First “Zero Fresh Waste Dump City”

  • In January 2026, Lucknow became Uttar Pradesh’s first “Zero Fresh Waste Dump” city under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban by ensuring 100% scientific processing of municipal solid waste.
  • This achievement was marked by the commissioning of the Shivri Solid Waste Management Plant with a capacity of 700 metric tonnes per day.
  • With two additional plants, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation can now process over 2,100 metric tonnes of waste daily, fully covering the city’s approximate daily waste generation of 2,000 metric tonnes.
