UN Extends UNAMA Mandate in Afghanistan

On 16th March 2026, the UN Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for three months.

  • UNAMA was established in 2002 after Taliban’s first regime ended.
  • The mandate is usually renewed annually.
