A recent analysis highlights that Sudan’s ongoing civil war, nearing three years since April 2023, has now escalated into the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, marked by mass displacement, famine and widespread violence.
What is happening in Sudan?
- Conflict between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023.
- Originated from a power struggle after the 2021 military coup.
- Sudan now effectively divided into rival-controlled regions.
- Capital Khartoum remains heavily contested despite partial recapture.
