Thailand’s Peaceful Society Promotion Act Comes into Force

On 24th August 2026, Thailand’s Peaceful Society Promotion Act, an amnesty law passed in July, came into effect. The Act seeks to promote political reconciliation by providing amnesty for offences linked to political conflicts between 1 January 2005 and 16 July 2025.

  • It comes against the backdrop of prolonged political instability involving pro-democracy groups, royalists, populist forces and the military.

Key Provisions of the Act

  • Political Amnesty: It covers more than 40 categories of offences linked to protests and politically motivated expression.
  • Eligible Offences: These include serious charges such as sedition, rebellion, cybercrimes and violations of emergency laws.
