INC’s Lahore Session
The Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress in December 1929, presided over by Jawaharlal Nehru, marked a decisive shift in the freedom struggle from Dominion Status to Poorna Swaraj (Complete Independence). Nehru’s tricolour hoisting on the banks of the Ravi and the call to observe 26 January 1930 as Independence Day set the stage for nationwide civil disobedience in 1930.
Background
- The earlier Calcutta Session of Congress had seen a divide between leaders demanding Dominion Status and others seeking Complete Independence.
