The Mauryan Empire, founded by Chandragupta Maurya in the 4th century BCE, was one of the most remarkable and influential empires in ancient India. With its capital at Pataliputra (modern Patna), the empire unified vast parts of the subcontinent, leaving a lasting legacy in politics, administration, culture, and religion.
