India is rapidly revitalizing its inland waterways—from just 18 MMT cargo in FY14 to 145.5 MMT in FY25—via expansion from 5 to 111 declared National Waterways and strategic investments exceeding Rs. 50,000 crore. Platforms like IWAI, Jalvahak, and infrastructure hubs are key to boosting eco-friendly, cost-effective cargo transport.

- Rs. 5,000 crore investment planned for developing inland waterways in the Northeast, out of which Rs. 1,000 crore worth of inland waterway projects undertaken in 2 years — Rs. 300 crore completed, Rs. 700 crore to be completed by 2025.
