Government Notifies Amendments to the EIA Framework
On 13th July 2026, the Union government introduced important amendments to the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006.
Key Amendments Made
Establishment of Standing Bodies
- To prevent delays caused by non-functional State authorities, the Ministry has created permanent standby institutions for every State and Union Territory:
- Standing Authority on Environment Impact Assessment (SAEIA): Will discharge the functions of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) for up to one year if the SEIAA becomes non-functional or delays decision-making.
- Standing Committee on Environment Impact Appraisal (SCEIA): Will perform the duties of the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) for up to one ....
