India Registers Landmark Progress in Organ Donation & Transplantation

On 22nd February 2026, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has achieved a significant milestone in the field of organ donation and transplantation, with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) recording unprecedented progress in organ donation, allocation, and transplantation across the country.

Key Achievements

  • Fourfold Increase in Transplant: The number of transplants in the country has seen a fourfold increase from less than 5,000 in 2013 to nearly 20,000 in 2025.
  • Organs from Deceased: Around 18% of transplants currently being performed with organs donated from deceased donors.
