State and Trends of Carbon Pricing 2025
On 10th June 2025, the World Bank released a report titled “State and Trends of Carbon Pricing 2025”.
- This report provides an up-to-date overview of existing and emerging carbon pricing instruments around the world, including international, national and subnational initiatives.
Major Developments and Trends
- 80 Carbon Pricing Instruments in Operation: There are currently 80 operational carbon taxes and emissions trading system (ETSs) worldwide, reflecting a net increase of five over the past year.
- Momentum in Emerging Economies: Countries like Brazil, India, and Türkiye have reached key implementation milestones for ETSs. Colombia and Indonesia have expanded the scope of their systems.
