Report of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Higher Education
On 16 June 2026, the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports presented its 381st Report, reviewing the Government’s action taken on the recommendations of the 364th Report on Demands for Grants (2025–26) concerning the Department of Higher Education.
Key Findings of the Report
Inadequate Public Funding
- India’s public expenditure on education is only about 4.12% of GDP (2021–22), below the NEP target of 6% of GDP.
Recommendations: Increase public spending to 6% of GDP and ensure annual budget growth of 8–10% to accommodate inflation.
