Cyber Slavery
Between 2024 and 2025, hundreds of young Indians seeking overseas employment were trafficked into cybercrime hubs along the Thailand-Myanmar border, particularly in areas like Myawaddy, after being lured by fake call-centre and data-entry job offers.
- Investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation revealed that these slave-like compounds are major centres for executing digital arrest scams and other organised online frauds.
- Cyber slavery is a modern form of human trafficking in which victims are deceived by fraudulent job offers, transported illegally across borders, and held under physical, psychological and financial coercion to operate organised cyber-fraud schemes.
