GPS Spoofing
Recently, several major Indian airports, including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, reported technical glitches affecting aircraft navigation during landing procedures.
- The central government later confirmed that these incidents were caused by GPS spoofing, a form of cyber interference targeting satellite-based navigation systems.
- GPS spoofing refers to a cyberattack in which false but realistic satellite signals are transmitted to mislead aircraft navigation systems about their position, speed or altitude.
- This differs from GPS jamming, which simply blocks or disrupts signals.
