‘One Day One Genome’ Initiative Unveiled
On 9th November 2024, India’s Department of Biotechnology and the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) launched the 'One Day One Genome' initiative to tap into the vast microbial potential of the country in various sectors like agriculture, environment, and human health.
- The program aims to showcase the critical role of microorganisms in maintaining ecosystem balance, including their involvement in biogeochemical cycles, soil formation, mineral purification, and waste degradation.
- Microbes are essential in agriculture, contributing to nutrient cycling, nitrogen fixation, pest control, and helping plants in water and nutrient uptake, ultimately supporting sustainable farming practices.
