India Approves First Dengue Vaccine
In July 2026, India approved its first dengue vaccine, QDENGA, providing a new tool to reduce the country's growing dengue burden.
- The vaccine is approved for people aged 4-60 years, irrespective of previous dengue infection.
- Unlike some earlier dengue vaccines, QDENGA does not require pre-vaccination screening for past dengue infection.
- QDENGA is a live-attenuated tetravalent vaccine that provides protection against all four dengue virus serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4).
- The vaccine has been approved in over 40 countries and has received WHO prequalification, confirming its quality, safety and efficacy.
