ISRO Conducts Three Gaganyaan Tests
On 12th July 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted three major qualification tests of critical Gaganyaan Crew Module systems, validating key technologies for astronaut safety during re-entry and recovery.
What are the Three Qualification Tests?
- Crew Module Uprighting System (CMUS)
Purpose
- Ensures the Crew Module returns to an upright position after splashdown in the sea.
- Maintains crew safety before recovery operations.
Key Features
- Uses a stored cold-gas inflation system.
- Inflates flotation bags using high-pressure gas.
- Operates through automatically controlled valves.
2. Crew-Service Umbilical System (CSU)
Purpose
- Connects the Crew Module and Service Module during the mission.
