World Intellectual Property Indicators 2024
On 7th November, 2024, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released its World Intellectual Property Indicators (WIPI) Report 2024.
Key Findings
Global Growth in Patent Filings
- The report recorded a total of 3.55 million patent applications filed worldwide in 2023, marking a 2.7% increase from 2022.
- China (1.64 million), the US (518,364), Japan (414,413), the Republic of Korea (287,954) and Germany (133,053) led global patent filings.
Global Industrial Design
- Global industrial design filing activity also grew in 2023, rising by 2.8% to 1.52 million designs, with seven of the top 20 countries seeing double digit growth.
