Advanced Thermal Energy Storage Material

In May 2026, scientists at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) developed a cost-effective spinel nanocomposite Phase Change Material (PCM) to improve the efficiency of thermal batteries used in solar power plants and industrial waste heat recovery systems.

Key Technical Advancements

  • Unprecedented Capacity: By adding just 1% spinel oxide nanoparticles to the PCM, researchers achieved a remarkable 45% increase in specific heat capacity.
  • Scalable Production: The team employed a simple, scalable co-precipitation method to produce metal oxide nanoparticles with controlled sizes.
  • Enhanced Heat Retention: Uniform dispersion of these nanoparticles creates a stable interface layer, increasing surface ....
