‘Mahendragiri’: Indigenous Advanced Stealth Frigate
On 30th April 2026, the INS Mahendragiri, the sixth ship of the Nilgiri-class (Project 17A), was delivered to the Indian Navy by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) in Mumbai.
What is Project 17A?
- Follow-on class of advanced stealth frigates after the Shivalik-class (Project 17).
- Multi-mission guided missile frigates designed for modern naval warfare.
- Built by: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (Mumbai), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (Kolkata).
- Designed by: The Warship Design Bureau (WDB) of the Indian Navy.
- Focuses on: Stealth technology, advanced automation, enhanced survivability, and multi-dimensional combat capability.
