TARA Glide Weapon System

On 7th May 2026, the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Air Force successfully conducted the maiden flight trial of the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) glide weapon system off the Odisha coast.

What is Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA)?

  • Indigenous glide weapon kit developed by DRDO.
  • Converts unguided bombs into precision-guided glide weapons.
  • Developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories and Indian industries.

What is a Glide Weapon?

  • A bomb fitted with wings and guidance systems that glides toward targets after release from aircraft.
  • Enhances strike range and accuracy without requiring propulsion systems.
