India Commissions Third SSBN ‘Aridhaman’

On 3rd April 2026, India commissioned its third nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Aridhaman, in Visakhapatnam, strengthening its strategic deterrence capability.

  • SSBNs (Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear submarines) are nuclear-powered submarines capable of launching ballistic missiles.
  • INS Aridhaman is more advanced and powerful than its predecessors, INS Arihant and INS Arighat.
  • With this, India reinforces its nuclear triad capability, the ability to launch nuclear weapons from land, air, and sea.
